The Driver:

Age:               35

Occupation:   Cash Convertors Franchisee

Lives:             Hayes, Kent

Drives:           BMW M3

                        Toyota Rav 4

Motorsport History:

Neil first got involved with Motor-racing at the age of 13, when he took up karting. Neil competed from 1988 to 1993 in local and National level kart racing championships, with a great deal of success.

The early years of karting saw Neil competing in the Junior Britain category as he learned all the techniques of the sport and started to build a level of success.  In the latter years of karting Neil moved into the Senior Britain category and competed against some of todays top drivers including ex F1 driver Ralph Firman and current Indy Racing League driver Darren Manning.

During his time in karting Neil competed in over 110 races and won 35 national level events. In 1993 Neil graduated to single-seater racing and won his first car race at the Jim Russell Racing school. This was then followed by half a season in Formula Vauxhall junior. The following year saw Neil move over to saloon car racing where he scored podiums in all the races he competed in.  As with many young drivers getting a sufficient budget was always difficult, and Neil had a couple of years break from racing.

During this period Neil and Dennis went to spectate on the 1994 Network Q Rally of Great Britain. Following this the pair started discussion about moving into rallying together. By the summer of 1995 the pair had purchased their first rally car, and so Neil was introduced to the sport of forest rallying.

 The Co-Driver:

Name:             Dennis Sanford

           Age:                                    33

Occupation:      Sales Manager

Lives:                          Lincoln

Drives:         Peugeot 407 HDi

Fiat Ulysse 2.2 HDi

Motorsport History:

Dennis has quite a short history in motor-racing, as he has never actually driven a racing car, all of his competing has been from the left hand seat, co-driving for Neil. As cousins and best friends, during Neil's karting career Dennis was often there to lend a hand (or get in the way) during the kart meetings. Most crucially though Dennis was there to shout support from the sidelines for Neil as he battled through each race.

After years of spectating, and one particularly disastrous test session in one of Neil's karts co-driving was only ever going to be the route that Dennis would look at when the two of them discussed the possible move into rallying in 1995. Once this move was agreed Dennis set about learning all about co-driving which prior to 1995 he didn't have a clue about. Some might say this is still the case today!
